Time to rejoice: Ron Santo's in the Hall
Cubs fans and Ron Santo supporters no longer need advocates who think Ron Santo long should have been in the Hall of Fame. No longer do they need to point out how Santo was the National League's version of Brooks Robinson in his day or that his numbers are better than those of George Kell or Pie Traynor. No, all Cubs fans and Santo supporters had to do this weekend was rejoice, Bruce Miles writes. Yes, rejoice. Your guy was enshrined Sunday in Cooperstown. Bruce's column.

Freight trains are part of the scenery in the suburbs. Tank cars rumble through the middle of busy downtowns as oblivious pedestrians stand by drinking Starbucks. But just as trains are a fact of life here, so are derailments. An average of 35 annually occurred in Illinois on mainline track, a 10-year analysis of Federal Railroad Administration data shows. About 30 people gathered at Lynfred Winery in Wheeling last night to help raise money for Nathan Saavedra, a 3-year-old boy from Carpentersville who has prune-belly syndrome, an ailment that weakened his kidneys and required a transplant. The fundraiser was organized by Kalin Koychev, 33, of Wheeling, who donated his left kidney last month to Nathan.
