U.S. Rep. Robert J. Dold (IL-10) recently visited local nonprofit NorthPointe Resources in Zion, touring the facility and meeting with employees and the individuals with disabilities. The congressman visited the facility as part of his ongoing effort to be out with the constituents, especially those nonprofits that help individuals with disabilities of the 10th District, and take their ideas back to Washington.
NorthPointe has been very successful providing living options, life skills education, employment training and job placement in the 10th District for the disabled, said Dold.
NorthPointe has 170 employees and annually supports more than 500 individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health issues.
During the congressman’s visit, he was very impressed to see firsthand employment programs for the clients. One department is called Employment Resources, which provides one-on-one assistance for people with disabilities to secure and maintain employment in the community. Another is their enterprise-type businesses, where the clients make a product like jewelry, greeting cards or wall art. Their Assembly and Fulfillment department has a production facility that can handle assembly, packaging, fulfillment and logistical needs for all sizes of companies.
“Our staff is fantastic at training and working with the individuals to help them gain employment,” NorthPointe Resources President/CEO Karl Kopp said.
