Truckload of Food to Benefit Des Plaines Food Pantry

An international hunger relief organization delivered a semi tractor-trailer full of nonperishable food and personal care items to benefit Des Plaines residents who are clients of the Self-Help Closet & Pantry on Wednesday, July 11.

The truck arrived at DSC Logistics, 1760 S. Wolf Rd. in Des Plaines, where the food will be stored for the food pantry and then transported to the food pantry in coming weeks by Two Men and a Truck of Des Plaines. Both DSC Logistics and Two Men and a Truck are donating their services to the food pantry.

Representatives from the food pantry, DSC Logistics, Two Men and a Truck and Sam's Place restaurant in Mt. Prospect were on hand for the truck's arrival. Sam's Place patrons are responsible for raising the necessary funds to cover the cost of a Feed the Children food delivery. Sam's Place owner Al Marinakos and his customers

conducted similar fundraisers in 2010 and 2008 to benefit local food pantries.

The Self-Help Closet & Pantry, established in Des Plaines in 1971, currently serves about 1,000 Des Plaines residents in need each month from its location at 600 E. Algonquin Rd.
