Cops seek suspect in Lake Barrington robbery
Lake County sheriff's police are seeking a suspect in the Monday morning robbery of a man on his way into a bank near the intersection of Route 59 and Kelsey Road in Lake Barrington.
Lake County Deputy Chief Wayne Hunter said an employee of a nearby business was on his way to a bank on the 5000 block of Shoreline Road at about 9:39 a.m. Monday carrying a bank bag with an undisclosed amount of money he planned to deposit.
As the victim walked toward the front doors of the bank, he was approached by a man who grabbed the bank bag and ran, Hunter said.
The victim chased the robber behind a strip mall, at which time the robber turned and sprayed the victim with what appears to have been some form of mace, Hunter said. However, the victim was not injured and required no medical treatment.
The robber was described as a black man wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, black jacket and hat. He was seen entering a dark-colored pickup truck, possibly a Chevy, and driving away.
Though only one person was involved with the actual robbery, it's unknown whether anyone else was in the getaway vehicle, Hunter said.
The Lake County Sheriff Office's Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the robbery and seeking assistance from the public with information that may help with apprehending the suspect.
