Victim identified in fatal Bartlett fire

The DuPage County coroner has identified a man who died last week following a house fire in Bartlett.

The victim was 62-year-old Dinesh Baxi, the coroner's office said on Monday. Baxi died on Thursday, March 10, at a small fire on the 200 block of Gatewood Lane.

Bartlett Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bill Anderson said the cause of the fire isn't considered suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing. Police Sgt. Geoffrey Pretkelis said there was no criminal activity.

Crews were called at 9:15 a.m. to the single-family home according to a news release from fire officials. Emergency personnel arrived a 9:21 a.m. and it took 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters found smoke on the first and second floors and found a small fire in the basement. A fire alarm sounded and no sprinklers were present. Fire personnel responded with 13 vehicles.

Damage was estimated at $10,000. Firefighters from Carol Stream, Hanover Park and Streamwood assisted at the scene.
