2 missing fishermen found dead in NW Ind. pond

GARY, Ind. — Divers found the bodies of two missing fishermen in a remote pond of a nature preserve near the Gary/Chicago International Airport.

The Times reports the Lake County coroner's office identified the men as 62-year-old Clinton Bradford and 65-year-old Persie Long, both of Gary.

They had been reported missing Saturday after not returning from a fishing trip the day before. State conservation officer Shawn Brown says another fisherman on Thursday spotted a van parked near the pond where a capsized boat could be seen.

Officials said it appeared both men drowned in about 10 feet of water.

The Post-Tribune reports that to reach the pond, fishermen have to drive along vacated railroad tracks for nearly a mile, then follow a narrow path through a wetlands area.
