Mesa officials to meet Wednesday
Officials from Mesa, Ariz., will meet Wednesday at the state capitol in Phoenix. The East Valley Tribune reported Tuesday night that Mesa will announce that the Cubs will remain in Arizona for spring training.
The Mesa city council on Monday voted in favor of keeping the Cubs, who had been courted by Naples, Fla. The legislation in Arizona still has hurdles to clear. Gov. Jan Brewer and other officials will be at the Wednesday event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Chicago time.
Also on Wednesday, the Cubs are expected to announce that they have signed veteran first baseman-third baseman and left-handed hitter Chad Tracy to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training.
