Stocks end flat following mixed economic reports

NEW YORK -- The stock market has ended little changed following mixed economic reports and as minutes from the Federal Reserve's last meeting point to divisions among policymakers.

Stock indexes have touched new 15-month highs Wednesday but have made only modest moves for two days after jumping Monday.

A trade group's report that its service industry index rose was welcome news, but a private snapshot of private sector jobs fell short of expectations.

The Dow Jones industrial average is up 2 at 10,574. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 1 at 1,137. The Nasdaq composite index is down 8 at 2,302.

Three stocks rose for every two that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume totaled 1.1 billion shares, about even with Tuesday.
