Submitted by Steel Beam Theatre
Steel Beam Theatre will hold auditions for children for the first show of its 12th season, “The Little Mermaid,” a musical, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at the theater, 111 W. Main St. in St. Charles.
Children ages 9-16 are invited to audition for director Kim Maslo. Children will be seen on a first-come basis. Beginners are welcome, but if you have theater experience, bring a resume or a list of acting, singing and dance experience, along with a photo, to your audition.
Prepare a monologue or memorize a cutting from a story, not to exceed one minute in length. Auditionees will be asked to sing a prepared song of their choosing a cappella, not to exceed one minute in length.
Those who do not have material prepared will be given a familiar song and reading to perform at the audition. Featured dancers are also being sought. If you are interested in being considered for a dance role, you will be asked to learn and perform a short routine. Callbacks will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the theater.
Rehearsals will generally be held Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings beginning Aug. 8. Performances will be at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 9-29, a total of 10 performances. Cast members must be available for all performances.
This is a tuition based program, $295, which includes two free tickets, script, costume, T-shirt and pizza lunch on final day of rehearsals.
Applications also will be accepted for student interns ages 13 and older to learn and work on the technical side of the production. As an educational children’s theater, it also affords the opportunity for students to gain experience as production, choreography, prop and costume assistants, lighting and sound technicians, and set designers, builders, and painters.
