Gutierrez: Congressman Jackson must give medical update
Congressman Luis Gutierrez is the latest Illinois politician to call on Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. to provide more information about a medical condition that’s had him on leave for a month.
Gutierrez said Tuesday that Jackson has a responsibility to give details.
Jackson’s location and exact medical condition are unknown. At first, staff said the Chicago Democrat was being treated for exhaustion. But last week a spokesman said Jackson’s condition was more serious and required inpatient treatment. They also disclosed that Jackson has suffered from emotional problems.
A Jackson spokesman didn’t return messages seeking comment.
On Monday, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Jackson should give an update “soon.”
Jackson’s father, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, has called it a private matter and said details will emerge when the time is right.
