Long Grove officials probe cause of slough fire
Investigators have returned to the scene of a large slough fire that sparked Wednesday afternoon.
Long Grove fire officials said the cause of the blaze that sparked north of Route 53, near Middlefax Drive, is still under investigation, but said clean up continues in the area.
The fire sparked from midafternoon to late evening Wednesday, and Lincolnshire Fire Chief Fred Kruger said firefighters from more than 20 fire departments were on the scene to put out the blaze.
A lack of water in the area resulted in water being transported in on tankers, he said.
Kruger said smoke from the fire could be seen from as far as downtown Long Grove. He did not know the exact time that the fire began, but estimated it was around 3 or 4 p.m.
A Long Grove fire department spokesman said one firefighter was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for heat exhaustion. He said no houses nearby were affected.
Officials said additional details would be released later today.
