Look who won in Elgin's parade float contest

The Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin recently announced the results of the Parade Float Contest at the 2012 City of Elgin Fourth of July Parade, presented by Sherman Health.

In the Open category, the winner is People That Make Patriotic Floats, and the runner-up is ABODE.

In the Children's category, the winner is Spring Hill Gymnastics, and the runner-up is St. John's Lutheran School & Church.

In the Business category, the winner is Danny's Pizza, and the runner-up is Provena Saint Joseph Hospital.

Competitors were judged in five categories: keeping with parade theme of “Red, White and Food,” originality, workmanship, performance and special effects, and general effect in presentation. The parade judging panel consisted of Kat Dahlin, Mike Butirro, Laurie Faith Gibson, Dave Metzger, Ted Schnell and Janelle Walker.

The winners and runners-up will receive plaques for their accomplishments and will be recognized at an upcoming Elgin City Council meeting.

The Parade Committee thanks all of the float contest competitors for participating as well as all parade units, entertainment, volunteers and parade-goers for braving the heat to enjoy this year's Elgin Fourth of July Parade.
