TexMex Fest set to open at 4 p.m. today after storm damage Friday

The first TexMex and Music Fest at CityGate Centre in Naperville will kick off at 4 p.m. today — a day after storm damage forced the cancellation of its scheduled first day and an hour after Saturday festivities were planned to start, organizers said.

All tickets for Friday will be honored today, and Friday ticket holders will be given a ticket to the Naperville Wine Festival scheduled for Aug. 24 and 25 to make up the price difference, said Kelley Koehler, a festival spokeswoman.

The band scheduled to play from 3 to 4:30 p.m. — The Country Sky Band — will not perform, but Asleep at the Wheel will play at 5 p.m. and Poi Dog Pondering will take the stage from 7 to 10 p.m.

High winds and heavy rain during a Friday afternoon thunderstorm combined to topple tents and chairs set up for the festival, which led organizers to cancel what would have been its first day.

The storms also left some 18,000 ComEd customers throughout the Chicago area without power at the peak point, but most people had power back by 10 p.m.

The slow moving storms were widely scattered, with O'Hare International Airport recording .28 inches of rain, but Buffalo Grove getting 2.16 inches in 2.5 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
