10-year-old wins Barrington poster contest
The Fourth of July Parade Committee announces the winner of its first Poster Contest — 10-year-old Ashlyn Bledsoe of South Barrington.
According to her mother, Ashlyn brought home a flier about the contest from her elementary school and immediately had an idea for what she wanted to draw. She spent several days working on the poster which features a flag background behind a large liberty bell containing the words “Let Freedom Ring” — the theme of this year's parade.
Ashlyn's winning poster will be framed and will hang in the lobby of the Barrington village hall. In addition, Ashlyn will receive $50 from Harris Bank and will ride in this year's parade as an honored guest.
This year's Fourth of July Parade will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, and will run along Main Street from Barrington High School to the train station. The parade will also feature a food drive benefiting two local food pantries.
Additional information on the parade, accompanying food drive, and poster contest may be found at www.barringtonparade.com.
The 2012 Parade Sponsors for this year's Fourth of July Parade are: Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital; IdeaLease; village of Barrington; Heinen's Fine Foods; village of North Barrington; Groot Industries; Nieminski Robbins & Associates; Tom Gooch, Cuba Township highway commissioner and Pepper Construction.
