Indianapolis police officer badly hurt in crash

INDIANAPOLIS — Police in Indianapolis say an officer suffered serious injuries when a suspected hit-and-run driver pulled his car into the path of the officer’s cruiser.

Police say the officer was responding Sunday evening to reports of hit-and-run crashes in a parking lot on the city’s west side when the car didn’t stop for a stop sign. The collision forced the squad car into oncoming traffic, where it was hit again by a pickup truck.

Police say the officer was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but was in stable condition.

The driver of the other car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Police say the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
