Chicago veterinarians make house call in Colombia
BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Two veterinarians from the Chicago Zoological Society traveled last weekend to Colombia to treat a very large toothache.
The society says veterinarians Carlos Sanchez and Michael Adkesson went to a zoo in Baranquilla, Colombia, to perform a root canal on a 47-year-old bush elephant named Tantor.
The vets said the surgery was a success and the elephant is no longer in pain.
The veterinarians donated their time after consulting with Colombian vets for about a month.
The zoological society operates the Brookfield Zoo in suburban Chicago.
