Illinois hires Villanova’s Record as strength and conditioning coach for basketball

Illinois has hired Villanova’s Lon Record as the strength and conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Record joins the Illini after five seasons with the Wildcats where he served in the same capacity.

“The areas of strength and conditioning are a top priority for our program, so it was important to go out and get one of the best in the profession to work with our athletes,” Illinois head coach John Groce said in a statement. “Coach Bollant and I are excited to have Coach Record working with our players on a daily basis to help them reach their full athletic potential.”

Prior to his time at Villanova, Record also spent one year as the head football strength and conditioning coach at Florida International and six years on the football strength and conditioning staff at Notre Dame.

Record fills the void left by Jimmy Price who departed in April after nine years as the strength and conditioning coach for Illinois basketball to join former Illinois men’s basketball head coach Bruce Weber’s staff at Kansas State.
