Des Plaines man charged with stealing $2,000 bike during test ride
A Des Plaines man was arrested on allegations he stole a $2,000 bicycle at Rivers Casino from someone who'd gone there to sell it, police said Wednesday.
Daniel Soriano, 26, of the 2700 block of Craig Drive, is charged with felony theft.
The theft occurred Aug. 17 in a parking lot at the casino in Des Plaines. The bike's owner, a Northbrook resident, had agreed to meet a prospective buyer, whom he'd met through an online advertisement, at the casino. The thief took the Trek Roscoe bike for a test ride and never returned, police said.
The thief was last seen pedaling north on Des Plaines River Road.
The encounter was captured on security video.
Police focused on Soriano as a suspect after getting a tip a few days after the bike was stolen, according to a news release.
After viewing a photo lineup, the bike's owner identified Soriano as the thief, the release said.
Once in custody, Soriano admitted stealing the bike, police said.
Reports didn't indicate if the bike was recovered, a police spokeswoman said.
