Registration is open for runners and walkers who wish to participate in the July 4 Great Western Freedom 4 to benefit Lazarus House.
The event begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W370 Dean St., St. Charles. The run is a competitive 4 mile CARA Certified race on a USATF certified course and on the Fox River Trail Runners Circuit. This event also features a 2-mile scenic walk.
Runners and walkers can preregister at signmeup.com. Preregistration fee is $25 for the race or $20 for the walk. There’s a $3 preregistration discount to CARA and Fox River Trail members. Event day registration is an additional $5 for both runners and walkers. All participants are encouraged to collect pledges for Lazarus House by signing up for “givamajig,” an easy-to-create widget that can be placed on websites, blogs or Facebook pages.
There will be a raffle to win prizes, including an iPod Shuffle, for those that raise $250 or more and have pledges turned into Lazarus House by June 25.
All proceeds benefit Lazarus House, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides emergency shelter, transitional living and rental/utility assistance to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and are connected to St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia or western rural Kane County.
