Coroner: Gurnee woman found in vehicle died of natural causes

A 48-year-old Gurnee woman who was found unresponsive in her vehicle Saturday night most likely died of natural causes, according to a preliminary investigation.

Inez Hughes was found slumped over in her vehicle at about 8 p.m. Saturday after the car crossed lanes of traffic on Washington Street and came to a rest, authorities said.

Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey said the vehicle did not crash.

Yancey said an autopsy performed Monday indicated the woman died of natural causes, but the coroner's office is awaiting toxicology reports.

Inez was found in her vehicle just east of I-94 on Washington Street, officials said.

Gurnee Police believe the woman suffered a heart attack, but Yancey could not confirm that report.

Paramedics transported Hughes to Vista Medical Center West, where she was pronounced dead.
