Group to discuss Social Security, Medicare at library

The Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans will offer “Setting the Record Straight: Preserving Social Security & Medicare” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 22 at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

As the national debate about America’s most successful retirement security programs heats up, it is important to know the facts about Social Security and Medicare. Join the group’s an educational program that will discuss the myths surrounding Social Security; explain the proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; outline solutions to strengthening these programs; and give you tools to join the campaign to preserve America’s retirement security programs. They also will discuss state programs that impact retirees. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. This event is free.
