Some thanks for years of service
Dear Gov. Quinn,
I am a recent retiree and I just wanted to thank you for taking away my health care and by punishing me for my dedicated work to the state of Illinois. As a transplant patient you have essentially ruined my quality of life.
Under the law that you signed and are so proud of, I will not be able to afford my medication to sustain my life. As a single parent father, how do I explain that to my child?
I have asked for absolutely nothing from this state and given everything, including in the past year working four weeks of overtime without requesting a cent in compensation because I understood the state’s dilemma.
Would you do be so dedicated? We both know the answer to that question is no. So as you stand at the podium bragging about how you saved the state millions by signing this law, remember what is attached to the law — my life. I will find a way to make it because I have a son to raise. I teach him to be honest, have integrity and work hard, perhaps virtues that you and the legislature should revisit.
It is a shame to live in this state and to have you and your cohorts represent us. By the way, I called your office to voice my opinion on the law and surprisingly your receptionist answered the phone. She recorded my displeasure with your bill but she wouldn’t take my name or phone number.
I would like to say keep up the good work but I’m still trying to find something of merit that you have done.
