Rolling Meadows hosts July Fourth bike decorating contest
Although the Rolling Meadows Fourth of July Parade won’t have funding from the city this year, a bike decorating contest from the local Crime Stoppers organization is hoping residents will still get in the spirit of the holiday.
A smaller, grass-roots parade will go on with help from Mayor Tom Rooney, who has been organizing volunteers and Len Prejna, president of the Rolling Meadows Crime Stoppers.
The group will sponsor a bike decorating contest at the parade and award prizes to the top six best-decorated bikes, Prejna said.
All bikes should be decorated with a Fourth of July theme, he added.
Participants can pick up registration and an ID number by Tuesday, July 3, at Travel Network, 3256 Kirchoff Road, or at the front desk of the Rolling Meadows Police Department at city hall.
On July 4, preregistered entrants will meet at 11 a.m. Rolling Meadows High School. The parade will depart at 11:30 a.m. Judging will take place along the parade route.
Winning entrants’ numbers will be posted after the parade at Travel Network. Prizes may be claimed at the same location, for one hour immediately after the parade or by July 11.
Adult supervision is required during the parade for entrants age 12 and under, Prejna said.
