Phony 911 call gets Carol Stream man jail, probation

A Carol Stream man who delayed his own arrest by calling 911 to falsely report a man with a gun has been sentenced to probation and jail, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Terrell Wilson, 22, made the call from a Carol Stream restaurant last month as officers waited outside to serve him with a warrant.

Authorities said Wilson claimed an armed man was involved in a domestic dispute at another location. Officers left the restaurant to investigate the report, which Wilson admitted concocting when he was taken into custody during a traffic stop the next day, according to police.

Wilson was being sought at the time on a warrant for failure to appear in Kane County court after he was accused of violating his probation in a retail theft case, records show.

On Monday, he pleaded guilty in DuPage County court to disorderly conduct and was sentenced by Judge John Kinsella to three months in jail and two years of probation.

Wilson, of the 100 block of Elk Trail, must serve at least half the jail term, with credit for time served since May 19. Had he been convicted at trial, he could have faced up to three years in prison.
