11-year-old tells police man tried to lure her to van

Sugar Grove police said Wednesday they received a report of a possible abduction attempt at 8:32 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Sugar Grove Police Investigator John Sizer, an 11-year-old girl said that at 8:15 p.m. she was sitting on a bench in the area of McCannon Street and Bastian Drive. She told police an older Chevrolet Astro Van stopped in front of her. The driver, who she described as either black or Hispanic, motioned toward the passenger seat and told her to come over there. When she stated “no,” the van left the area.

In a subsequent search of the area police were not able to locate the vehicle.

The girl said the van was older with a swing-out rear door that had a window. There was rust along the window frame.
