Two charged following Antioch drug sweep

Two Antioch residents were charged with various drug possession charges following a drug sweep by police at the Oakridge Apartment Complex.

Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville said search warrants were executed simultaneously on two apartments in the Oakridge Court complex on May 31.

He said the sweep was held in conjunction with members of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.

“These subjects were under the impression they could set up shop in Antioch by using fear and intimidation methods,” Somerville said. “They were wrong.”

During the drug sweep, 30 bundles of heroin was confiscated, he said, adding the bundles were packaged for sale.

Lecarlos Moton, 32, of 277 Oakridge Court, was charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance/heroin, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moton was taken from the scene to Lake County bond court, Somerville said. He currently remains incarcerated in Lake County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, and is due back in court on June 5.

Malona Banda, 27, also of 277 Oakridge Court, was charged with a single count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance during the search warrant. She was released on a $1,000 bond, Somerville said.

“Antioch has a proactive police department with a highly supportive governmental body and a community minded citizen core,” Somerville said. “We follow up on every lead and encourage the public to come forward with information.”

The incident remains under investigation and additional charges or arrests are expected.
