Praise for decision on death penalty

Thank you to Gov. Quinn and the 96th Illinois General Assembly for their decision to end Illinois’ broken death penalty system. This development makes us so proud of Illinois. We commend you for your commitment to justice.

The practice of putting people to death for crimes committed is not our right. Life is sacred. Every human being can repent and reconcile with God regarding the taking of a life. The death penalty cuts off the opportunity to reconcile.

We have compassion for the victims of violent crime and their families, who should never have had to endure such tragedy. We affirm the sacredness of life from the womb to natural death.
