Naperville police host annual awards ceremony May 20
On Friday, May 20, 2011, at 5:30 p.m., the Naperville Police Department will host its annual Awards Ceremony in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. The public and media are invited and encouraged to attend this event. During the ceremony, recipients will be honored with the following recognitions:
Medal of Valor
The Distinguished Service Award
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners' Officer of the Year Award
The Naperville Park District Officer David White Scholarship
The George Pradel Award for Public Service
Support Services Employee of the Year
Telecommunicator of the Year
Meritorious Service Awards
Meritorious Unit Awards
Enterprise Policing Awards
Life Saving Awards
Chief's Commendations
20-year senior employees
25-year senior employees
The Police Department will also be recognizing the promotions of deputy chief, commander, sergeant and communications manager.
The Medal of Valor is awarded for an act which involves extreme risk to the life of an employee. Generally, the Medal of Valor will be conferred as a result of combat.
The Medal of Distinguished Service is awarded for an act which involves significant risk to the life of an employee, but which is performed under conditions described as less hazardous than those constituting valorous action.
The George Pradel Award for Public Service is awarded to the individual employee who performs extraordinary community service outside of the scope of their employment to benefit the citizens of Naperville.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners' Police Officer of the Year Award is a prestigious honor bestowed on a commissioned member of the Police Department who embodies highest achievement, represents an outstanding leader, enhances the efficiency and good-will of the Department and has worked toward maintaining a good relationship with the community.
The Enterprise Policing Award is awarded in recognition of an act or series of acts which assisted an outside law enforcement agency in accomplishing a significant objective.
The Police Department Awards Ceremony will be broadcast live on the city's government access channel WCNC (Channel 6 – WOW, Channel 10 – Comcast and Channel 99 – AT&T) and re-broadcast throughout the coming months.
