Officials: Keep an eye on elderly during holidays

State officials say this is a good time of year to keep a close eye on older family members who may need assistance.

November is National Family Caregivers Month. Illinois Department on Aging Director John Holton says it’s also the kickoff to the holiday season and a good time for families to use the time they spend together to look for signs that older relatives may need more help.

Those signs include decreased mobility, change in appetite, unfilled medical prescriptions and not paying bills. The department is reminding people that there are more than 100 resources centers statewide for caregivers.
