Cougars split with LumberKings
CLINTON, Iowa — Runey Davis blasted 2 doubles to lift the Kane County Cougars to a 5-2 victory over the Clinton LumberKings in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday night at Ashford University Field, but the LumberKings rebounded for a 2-0 win in the nightcap.
Davis’ double in the top of the second in Game 1 with two outs drove home Michael Antonio and Dean Espy. Davis scored on Yowill Espinal’s single. Davis scored in the fifth on a single by Orlando Calixte and Lane Adams drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Cody Fassold (1-0) earned the win in 2 innings of hitless relief.
In Game 2, Angel Baez (1-1) took the loss despite pitching the first complete game of the season for the Cougars (29-26) that included 8 strikeouts.
