Topical programs are fixtures of the weekly meetings of the Kiwanis Club of Elgin. On June 18, Ernie Broadnax, Elgin resident and historian, will discuss his efforts to make a nonfiction movie about African-Americans’ role in the history of Elgin.
On June 25, Melissa Ziel, librarian at Gail Borden Public Library, will demonstrate e-book readers. Members and guests will learn how to browse, checkout, and download free eBooks and eAudiobooks any time of the day or night with a Gail Borden library card.
The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 92nd year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. In 2011, the Elgin noon club donated more than $20,000 to local organizations.
Persons interested in joining the club are invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting, held at noon each Tuesday at The Hickory Stick Bar & Grille Restaurant, 875 Sports Way, Elgin at the Highlands golf course. For information, call Karen Maki, (847) 429-5976.
