Riverfest, beer, World War II remembrances and a new theater are among this weeks selections by Sean Stangland and Richard Battin for The Suburbs This Weekend.

The 30th Annual Pride of the Fox RiverFest takes place in downtown St. Charles and along the town’s Riverwalk. The event features two entertainment stages with live music, a barbecue cook-off, dragon boat races, a 40-ton fantasy sand sculpture, craft show, car show, water ski show, carnival and more. Rails to Victory, Fox River Trolley Museum, 361 S. LaFox St. (Route 31), South Elgin: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10. In honor of 70th anniversary of World War II, experience a WW II military encampment; view period battles on the banks of the Fox River; be a fan at a baseball game on the homefront with the Rockford Peaches at 10 a.m. Sunday; and ride the museum trolleys into “occupied France” to experience the suspense and drama of the heroism of the American Allies. Special fare rates for the combined “Occupied France World War II Trolley Adventure” and site pass are $12, or $10 for kids. Limited quantity available on first-come, first-served basis. Welcome to the Beer Market, a new Vernon Hills spot that owners hope is the first of many across the country.

Wheaton gets the newest movie theater in the Northwest suburbs starting next Friday, June 8, when the Studio Movie Grill opens for biz at 301 Rice Lake Square. The theater will house eight auditoriums with seating capacities from 100 to 275.

All auditoriums will be equipped not only with Dolby 3-D sound and digital projection, but comfy lounge chairs and actual dining tables. Tickets start at $5 for shows before noon. Go to studiomoviegrill.com.
