Bloomington health center fire ruled accidental

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Investigators believe the fire that badly damaged a community health facility near downtown Bloomington started in a kitchen and was accidental.

Fire officials say the Tuesday night fire at IU Health Community Health Building caused major damage to the first-floor kitchen and smoke damage through rest of the three-story limestone structure that dates to the 1890s.

Bloomington fire Sgt. Jayme Washel tells The Herald-Times the blaze started near a stove or oven but that investigators couldn't tell Wednesday whether the appliance had been left on or whether it had an electrical problem.

No injuries were reported from the fire.
