Thieves strike three homes near Marengo
McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren is asking residents to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people, after three daytime residential burglaries were reported this week in unincorporated Marengo.
Items taken Tuesday included jewelry, flat-screen televisions and firearms. All of the burglaries involved forced entry to single-family homes, while residents were away, police said.
In the past, burglars have used the ruse of asking for directions if a homeowner answered the door.
