Lake Co. offers HIV testing

The Lake County Health Department will offer free HIV and hepatitis C screenings for anyone 13 and older from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at the department’s Belvidere Medical Building, 2400 Belvidere Road, Waukegan.

The rapid HIV test is done using a simple oral swab and the hepatitis C screenings uses finger stick technology recently approved by the FDA. Results for either or both tests are available within 20 minutes.

Information about other health and environmental services along with free food and a children’s play area with large inflatable slides and a bubble bouncer also will be available.

The department and other organizations are launching the “Step Up, Get Tested” campaign to reduce the numbers of new HIV infections and undiagnosed individuals in observance of National HIV Testing Day. For more information, call (847) 377-8450.
