State trooper shoots man near downtown Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Authorities say a state trooper fatally shot a man during a struggle near downtown Fort Wayne.

State police Sgt. Ron Galaviz says the confrontation happened early Friday after the trooper stopped when he saw a fight involving several people. Galaviz says the trooper followed one man who left the scene.

He says the trooper caught up with the 33-year-old man and that there was a struggle between them, during which the trooper fired his gun.

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital. Galaviz says the trooper’s only injuries are some scrapes and bruises.
