Waubonsie Valley claims share of Valley title

Melaina Koulos singled in Amanda Lack with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, and No. 13 Waubonsie Valley rallied past South Elgin 4-3 to clinch a share of the Upstate Eight Valley title.

Waubonsie (25-6, 16-3), which won its ninth straight game, last won a conference championship in 2001 — when current coach Alyson Kelley was a freshman at Waubonsie. The Warriors trailed Bartlett by three games heading into the week, before beating the Hawks in consecutive days. Bartlett can still split the title by beating Lake Park today.

Shannon Hohman (20-4), who came on in relief in the third, struck out three. Koulos was 3-for-4 with a double.

Neuqua Valley 11, Naperville North 3:

Alyssa Domico was 2-for-3 with a double, 5 RBI and a run scored for the Wildcats (20-14). Winning pitcher Jamie O’Brien (11-10) struck out seven.

Willowbrook 7, Montini 1:

Sam Schmidt, Darian Pelsor and Erin Sporer all homered for the Warriors (18-14).
