Near-empty buses wasting our money

I must comment on the quote by Paula Wolff, Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Chair, in the article by Marni Pyke on April 24. She said, “People have concerns about money not being spent well. They wonder are pensions too rich, are bus routes running on empty ...” Whoa, stop right there. My wife and I have a game that we play — its called “Pace Bus Alert.” When this is called out we count the number of people on the bus. I hate to tell you the many, many times we count one, two, three people on the bus — and to top it all off, it’s a large bus too. This happens most any time of the day and any day of the week.

Yes, you are right, we are concerned that an agency that gets a hefty supply of our tax money can’t figure out where and when to run buses except empty ones hoping for customers. Seems to me here is a good place to start to address some of the concerns of the taxpaying citizens.
