Before you can run, you have to walk
As quoted in the Daily Herald, “Wheeling will hold a public meeting next week for residents to discuss local biking and walking conditions, part of the village’s ongoing plan to improve transportation in town.”
Walking conditions you say. Here in our Hollywood Ridge development we can’t even safely stroll. There are instances every day when women with baby strollers, citizens walking their dogs and children roller-skating are forced to go into the street because of cars blocking the public sidewalks. Today, I counted 17 violations on only five residential streets; Berkshire, Valley Stream, Wilshire, Pebble and Cedar.
I had a nice conversation with one of our trustees and when asked what he would suggest to improve the village, he said to either enforce the laws or abolish them. I agree. What should we do about Village code 9.10.107 -- ”Stopping, standing, or parking prohibited”?
Notify the village you say, I tried that twice (with pictures) and got nowhere.
Bike path? OK, but I’ll settle for the ability to walk around the neighborhood on a sidewalk. That’s not asking much.
