Gurchak, Grayslake Central win No. 25

Jon Gurchak went 4-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI to lead Grayslake Central’s baseball team to its 25th win of the season Thursday.

The Rams defeated Zion-Benton 11-1 on Syd Klocke Day, which recognized Grayslake Central’s principal who is retiring this year.

“I’m really glad we were able to get the ‘W ‘for Syd today,” said Rams coach Troy Whalen. “She has meant so much to the baseball program and all athletics at Grayslake Central. She is a special person.”

Ryan Hamrick continued his hot hitting with a triple, double and 4 RBI for Grayslake Central (25-8). Ryan Fontana added a pair of singles, and Kristian Meehan and Kyle Clark doubled as the Rams pounded out 14 hits.

Brian Karol, Mike Wiggins and Jack Spicer combined on a 4-hitter with Wiggins picking up his second win in as many days and third overall.

Libertyville 7, Loyola 3: The Wildcats got 9 hits, including a double by Anthony Mack, to improve their record to 21-10.

Evan Skoug got 3 RBI, and Darwin Townsend added a pair.

Carmel 10, Marian Central 4: Tyler Murphy tripled, and Duncan Amrein and Alex Young doubled for the Corsairs, who improved to 21-9 with the nonconference win.

Sean Terrett was the winning pitcher.
