Must elected officials be constantly supervised?
This is in response to a letter to the editor on Saturday, May 12, by Shannon Smigielski from Grayslake. She is on the school board and urges us to get involved by going to meetings.
She believes this is the only way to keep the school board honest and our taxes in check. We are not to assume that the people we elected to do this will do so on their own.
What platform did she run on to get elected? Did she tell voters that she will raise their taxes unless they show up at the meetings and stop her?
I elect people to office who I hope are responsible enough to represent me without constant supervision.
I know that I would not elect her if she represented me in my school district.
