Springfield shooting victim described as hero
SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man is being remembered as a hero after friends say he died while shielding others from gunfire.
Authorities say 20-year-old Quinton Harden was shot in the head outside a home in Springfield on Monday.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that witnesses say someone fired about a dozen bullets at nine people standing outside the home. The witness says Harden was shot while he was shielding a woman on the porch and urging others to get inside.
Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards says Harden was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center.
A 33-year-old woman was shot in the leg, and another man was hit by a bullet fragment.
The shooting remains under investigation.
