15 restaurants to offer Taste of Chicago ‘pop-ups’

The Taste of Chicago is getting another food infusion.

City officials chose 15 restaurants that will serve dishes for one day each during the annual festival July 11 to 15 in Grant Park.

The Chicago Tribune reports the restaurants include Beat Kitchen, Cafe Trinidad and Cafe Gelato. They’re all first-time participants.

Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events officials say they wanted to include restaurateurs who may have been put off by the cost. They won’t have to pay the city a $3,000 fee that the other 40 restaurants participating do.

The music headliners include Jennifer Hudson. Concert tickets will cost $25 this year when the music festival used to be free.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he wanted to reverse years of losses incurred by the festival.
