Grayslake Central nets FVC title

Alex Wilson and Skyler Jessop scored, and Rachel Effa recorded 7 saves, as Grayslake Central’s girls soccer team captured its second straight Fox Valley Conference championship with a 2-0 win over visiting Hampshire on Thursday.

Both Grayslake Central (11-7) and Grayslake North went 5-1 in the FVC, but the Rams beat the Knights head to head.

Lauren Spalding added an assist for Grayslake Central, which lost its first FVC match.

“The girls worked so hard to earn this conference title this year,” Rams coach Mike McCaulou said. “I think this title means a lot to the girls considering we have 10 underclassmen that have never played varsity soccer before this season. The program has really grown over the past 10 years, and there are many people that have contributed to that, including the entire coaching staff, athletic staff, parents, youth systems in the area, administration and, most of all, the players. (Assistant) coach (Bethany) Russ and I are especially proud of our seniors, who just won the last game they will ever play on their varsity field.”
