A celebration of transforming lives

The gratitude I feel is overwhelming. Bridge Communities just concluded its second annual “Celebrating Women ... Transforming Lives” luncheon at Danada House, a celebration at which we recognize the contributions and accomplishments of extraordinary women in our community.

This year’s event was not only sold out, it was packed to the rafters with business and community leaders, volunteers and visionaries, all dedicated to connecting homeless families with a better future.

Keynote speaker Lisa Nigro, founder of Inspiration Corporation and recipient of the 2010 Presidential Citizens Medal, held us captive with her fittingly inspirational story of creativity, compassion and commitment to a great cause — feeding the homeless of Chicago.

Hear Us Inc. founder Diane Nilan received our “Transforming Lives Award” for tirelessly giving voice to homeless children across the country. A native of DuPage County, Diane is the truest altruist I know; we at Bridge are honored to call her our friend.

Bridge Communities’ “Life Transformed Award” went to Courtney Simek, a courageous young lady who triumphed over homelessness and has dedicated her career to helping ladies just like herself to overcome adversity to lead bright, strong, happy lives.

This incredible celebration was made possible by the generosity of Bridge’s 45 program partners, our hardworking staff and board, our dedicated volunteer mentors, an event committee that’s second-to-none, and our event sponsors, Allstate Insurance Company, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Charitable Foundation, BMO Harris, My Chef Catering, WinTrust Group, Chicago IT Roundtable, and Corn Products International.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to publicly thank all of these remarkable individuals and organizations. To witness the life change that occurs through Bridge Communities is awe-inspiring indeed.
