Lakes Community H.S. inducts 74 in NHS

The Lakes Community High School chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony recently. Seventy-four juniors and sophomores were inducted during the candlelight ceremony. The inductees were addressed by faculty speaker, Scott Leverentz and Community High School Board Member Ken Dewitt.

Sophomore and Junior candidates receive invitations to apply based on their cumulative grade-point average. From there, they need to fill out an extensive application consisting of school, community and leadership involvement, which includes sports, clubs, and volunteer service. Faculty members also rate each applicant based on character. The candidates are then selected by the Faculty Council based on the information they have provided along with faculty ratings.
The National Honor Society sponsors the Eagle Relay to Give Kids Hope, with proceeds benefiting One Hope in Lake Villa; a holiday hat/mitten/coat drive to benefit Open Arms Mission; and assisted the Lake County Forest Preserve restoration days this spring.
