Fire severely damages Elk Grove apartment
There were no reported injuries during an fire inside an Elk Grove apartment unit early Wednesday morning, but the unit was left uninhabitable.
The blaze broke out about 5:15 a.m. in a first-floor unit of the apartment complex on the 900 block of Perrie Drive, said Elk Grove Fire Lt. John Fordon.
Elk Grove police were the first emergency crews at the scene, and officers immediately called for an upgraded alarm as flames were showing from the apartment unit, Fordon said.
No one was inside the unit when the fire broke out, and firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the single apartment, Fordon said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze about 40 minutes after the initial 911 call. Other units in the complex sustained smoke damage but were still inhabitable, he said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday night, and a damage estimate was not available.
