RunFurShelter benefits Anderson Animal Shelter

Submitted by Anderson Animal Shelter

Lace up your running shoes for the second annual RunFurShelter 5K Run/Walk Sunday, May 20, beginning at Sherman Immediate Care, 2000 McDonald Road in South Elgin.

New this year is the RunFurBiscuits dog walk/run. Runners will now have the chance to complete the race with their dog by their side. All dogs entered will receive a bandanna. RunFurBiscuits is limited to 30 dogs and is currently full for this race.

“We were amazed at the enthusiasm of the crowd that came out that May morning for the first 5K run. There was an outpouring of support for not only Anderson Animal Shelter but also as a sign of goodwill toward getting the word out about finding homes for those loving pets who otherwise might be euthanized. In a way, you might say the event inspired us to adopt our second rescue dog,” said Jerry Murin, a first-time runner at last year’s race.

The event organizers are currently looking for race sponsors who will help to underwrite the cost of this run. Sponsor packages include options such as media recognition, on-site presence and other benefits to market your business.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Team Meaney on the 5K RunFurShelter. The event this year will be a wonderful connection for runners and their pets, as this is the first year that pets will participate with their owners. Thank you to everyone who participates and supports Anderson Animal Shelter,” said Anderson Animal Shelter Executive Director Jack Graff.

In addition to financial and in kind donations, the event also needs volunteers to help on race day. If you’d like to volunteer to help with the race, visit the shelter website and click on the run in the Events Tab for more details, www.andersonanimalshelter.org.

All proceeds from the RunFurShelter will benefit Anderson Animal Shelter and two other local animal rescue groups: Catahoula Rescue Inc. and Dog Guardians.

Anderson Animal Shelter collaborates with public and private organizations and individuals to shelter, care for and promote the adoption of stray and unwanted companion animals.

The shelter advocates for the compassionate and humane treatment of these animals through direct care, humane education and community outreach programs.
