Bartlett set to add utility taxes tonight
Bartlett trustees tonight are expected to approve ordinances that will impose a pair of new utility taxes expected to generate about $1.6 million in additional annual revenues for the village.
The measures, part of the village’s $48 million 2012-13 fiscal year budget, would tax residents’ electricity and natural gas use. Together, they’re expected to cost the average homeowner about $85 a year.
The new taxes were among five options trustees considered last month while drafting the budget. Other options included dipping into village reserves to balance the spending plan.
While deciding to add the utility taxes, village officials voted to eliminate the village vehicle sticker program, saving residents $15 per vehicle.
