Pedestrian killed by Metra train in Lombard

Lombard police are investigating the scene of an accident in which a Metra train this morning struck and killed a pedestrian, according to officials.

The pedestrian has not been identified yet, but Metra spokesman Tom Miller did confirm the person has died.

Two Metra train runs were canceled because of the accident, according to the agency’s website. Train No. 506, which was scheduled to leave Elburn for Chicago at 10:25 a.m., did not run. Same for Train No. 503, which was scheduled to leave Chicago for Elburn at 10:40 a.m.

Train No. 504 was operating more than two hours behind schedule after the accident, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on the Union Pacific West Line tracks near Grace Street and St. Charles Road in Lombard. That train was traveling toward Chicago and was supposed to arrive shortly before 10 a.m.

Trains have resumed service, according to the Metra website. A train from Elburn was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 1:50 p.m., and another was scheduled to leave Chicago at 12:40 p.m. for Elburn.

Police officials could not be reached for comment about the investigation.
